Yokohama Avid ENVigor Tire Review
High Performance All Season Tire The Yokohama Avid Envigor tire is designed for dry and wet traction, as well as light snow and comes in H (130mph), V (149mph), and W (168mph) speed rated versions. Yokohama designed the Avid ENVigor to be low weight and reduce friction so that rolling resistance is minimized. This increases the fuel efficiency of the tire to give the driver more miles per gallon of fuel. Frequently with low rolling resistance tires traction can be comprised. Yokohama combats this with an optimized contact patch in which the tread is supposed to provide superior grip on the road in all weather conditions.
As with most of the reviews we do, you can click on the image of the tire to see it in a higher resolution picture. You can see the Adaptive 3D sipe technology which increases grip on ice and snow, as well as Yokohama's UNIBLOC shoulder technology which supports the tire when cornering at high speeds. The tire also contains special angled cuts in the groove walls to speed up water evacuation. This gives better traction in the rain and prevents hydroplaning when you are driving at high speeds on the freeway. The tapered center rib assists with this as well. Tested: The Avid ENVigor provides a smooth a comfortable ride almost like a touring tire would. Over bumps and potholes encountered in the road, the tires have a nice and cushioned feel to them. Dry traction is very good, but it seems as though the tires have a softer sidewall to them which may be why the steering response it not as quick as it could be. This seems to be the case more so when toggling back and forth, but not when cornering around a more gradual bend.
Conclusion:
The ENVigor comes packed with plenty of new technology from Yokohama, but the tires don't perform as well as some others in the high performance all season category. Price ranges from about $90 to $180 per tire which is ok but not a great value for this tire. Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S 3 are a good alternative or the Kumho Ecsta PA31's do well too. |
