General AltiMAX RT43 Tire Review
Standard Touring All Season

The AlimiMAX RT43 was designed by General Tire for all seasons including dry, wet, and light snow conditions on the road. This medium profile tire is a hybrid style that blends a comfortable ride with some performance features.

The tire contains a unique silica tread compound for extended tread life and is supposed to wear more evenly over the life of the tire. As you can see from the image to the left this tire is molded into a symmetric pattern with channels to evacuate water and prevent hydroplaning.

The smallest grooves in the tread pattern (sipes) give additional traction in  winter conditions such as snow and ice. As always, if you live where it snows most of the winter, go with dedicated snow tires and swap them out when the seasons change.

On the Track:
When taken for a spin to see how AlimiMAX RT43 compares to similar All Season touring tires, this one really shines. It displays very impressive dry traction and steering response even when driven fairly aggressively. The tires handle very well and grip the road when cornering.

In wet conditions the tires perform very well, almost like driving in dry conditions. The tires did not slip or hydroplane even when driven hard around the track. The tires also provided a nice cushion feel when encountering small bumps and imperfections in the road.

The Good:
  • Very impressive dry and wet traction
  • Great steering response
  • Smooth and comfortable ride
  • Excellent Warranty

The Bad:
  • Snow and Ice traction is ok (this is to be expected from an all season tire)
The Bottom Line:
General's newest Touring All Season tire, the AlimiMAX RT43, is right up there with the best in the category. Steering response is nice and crisp. The tires handle well when cornering even when driven at the limit. The AlimiMAX RT43 performs very well in dry and wet conditions, and is a solid all around choice. It comes with a 6 year / 75,000 mile warranty which is very good for this type of tire. Prices range from about $50 to $100 per tire depending on size and tire shop, which is great value for this tire.
