Pirelli Winter Sottozero Tire Review
Winter Tire

Pirelli has always been looked up to as a reputable tire brand, especially for racing tires. The Winter Sottozero model lives up to its brand name as it offers optimum performance for high-powered and sports cars in various winter conditions. Aside from being a remarkable winter tire, this model also performs in a superb level during the mid-autumn and early spring days, giving drivers more confidence and less worry.

With the asymmetrical tread design and varied pattern blocks, the tire provides greater precision and stability. The silicon compound that wraps the tread and casing improves handling in both dry and wet conditions while the tire’s longitudinal grooves and high-density sipes increase comfort and snow traction.

The Pirelli Winter Sottozero is available in a wide array of sizes, with width ranging from 195-305mm and rim diameter ranging from 16”-20”. This makes the tire a good choice for a variety of vehicles including sports cars, mid-range family cars, and bulky SUVs.

As a tire model that can withstand harsh winter conditions, this tire is branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol. Its MSRP starts at roughly $195 and varies based on your desired size and preferred vendor.

Tire Test Results

Coming from a brand that supplies tires for highly-anticipated sports competitions such as the Formula One Championship, the Pirelli Winter Sottozero has a lot of things to prove. From various surveys, you will find that it’s generally well accepted and even recommended. However, only through our personal test can we tell if those data are pure facts. Here’s what we found out:

Pros
  • This tire offers great handling, acceleration, cornering, and grip on wet and dry conditions, making it a suitable tire for virtually all seasons.
  • It’s able to perform well despite heavy snow and ice, and its hydroplaning resistance is above average.
  • The tire offers a good sense of security and a rather comfortable ride.

Cons
  • Produces some noise, specifically when driven on dry road conditions.
  • The wear rate is about average, depending on the aggressiveness of the driver and how frequently it’s used.

Conclusion
Overall the Pirelli Winter Sottozero is a great tire that can be used virtually in all seasons. Its price may be a concern for some, but the level of comfort and security it offers in the snow are certainly worth the trade. I would definitely recommend this tire if you are swapping it out for a summer tire when the seasons change.
