General Altimax RT Tire Review
Standard All Season Touring

The Altimax RT (Road Touring) was designed to give drivers not only a comfortable ride but also performance, handling, and traction. This tire contains a special silica compound on the outside to provide good grip in all conditions, while a soft tread compound reduces vibrations on the inside.

If you click on the tire image to the left you can see a detailed image of the tire, including General Tire's special Twin Cushion Tread Compound which combines different densities to provide a more smooth and comfortable ride. This tire also contains Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology which gives the tire a more quiet ride, especially at high speeds on the freeway.

Tested:
The General Altimax RT performed amazingly well against the tires tested in this category. Steering response and handling was excellent even when driven very aggressively. Traction when accelerating and braking was superb.

In wet conditions the tires handled very well around turns and gripped the road outstandingly. In snow and icy conditions the tires performed well for an All Season tire, but not what you would expect from a dedicated winter tire.

When driven over bumps and potholes the tire responded well and still provided a nice and smooth ride. The only downside to the Altimax RT is that some customers that we talked to have found the tread can wear quickly.

Pros: Excellent handeling and steering reponse. Smooth and quiet ride. Great wet and dry traction.
Cons: Tread can wear quickly

Conclusion:
This is an outstanding All Season tire with solid scores all around. Traction in all conditions was excellent as was cornering and steering response. The price range for the General Altimax RT ranges from $56 to $124 depending on size which is a great value for this tire.
