Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 Tire Review
High Performance All Season Tire

The Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 (High Tech Radial, All-Season, Premium 1st Generation) tire is designed for dry and wet traction, as well as light snow.

Sumitomo HTR A/S P01
Sumitomo designed this tire with a directional tread pattern that utilizes five ribs that grip the road for optimal steering response. The tire contains tie bar sipes along the perimeter which channel out the water when driving in wet conditions but also allow the tire to stay stiff enough while dry to provide high performance cornering.

If you click on the image to the left you can see the tire in more detail, including the grooves for evacuating water, and sipes for snow / ice traction. On the inside, the tire has Jointless Nylon Bands which reinforce the tire's structure at high speeds when cornering.

Tested:
So how does the Sumitomo HTR AS P01 perform when taken for a ride on the track? When it comes to dry conditions this tire performs amazingly well. The tires grip the road when accelerating and braking hard, as well as cornering and driving aggressively.

With some sprinklers providing rain like conditions on the track, the tires do well, but struggle a bit when driven harder. Especially when cornering or toggling back and forth, the tires will slip a bit but regain traction quickly.

Pros:
  • Steering response is very good
  • Dry traction is amazing
  • Excellent braking power
  • Comfortable ride and fairly low noise
  • Cornering and handling is very good

Cons:
  • Wet traction is good, but not as impressive as some other tires in this category
Conclusion:
Sumitomo HTR AS P01's are a good tire for those looking for high performance handling and traction. They also provide a smooth ride for a low profile tire. They perform well in wet conditions too but just not on par with the higher caliber all season tires. The cost is another big benefit as these tires come in at $50 - $95 per tire depending on size, which is a very low cost for a tire in the high performance all season category.
