Pirelli P Zero Rosso Tire Review
Max Performance Summer UTQG Rating Treadwear 220 Traction AA Temperature A The P Zero Rosso is a high speed monster of a tire developed by Pirelli for those that demand peak performance from their tires. This is a summer tire not meant for driving in snowy conditions but performs fine in the rain. The Pirelli P Zero Rosso (Ro' so means red in Italian) comes in both directional (tire on the left) and asymmetric (tire on the right) tread designs. The asymmetric design is the most common and used with front engine designed vehicles. The directional tread design is used with mid engine and rear engine cars to provide hydroplaning resistance (with the directional tires on the front two wheels and the asymmetrical tire on the back two wheels). The P Zero Rosso tires both contain special tread compounds to give the driver ultimate grip when putting the pedal to the metal. The tread is enhanced with PenTec cord which is a material developed by Allied Signal for space exploration. Tested: Taking high performance tires for a test run on an Audi S4 is always a good time. Taking P Zero Rosso's on an Audi S4 for a test run is having your cake and eating it too. Boy are these tires fun to to drive! They stick to the road like glue when going through turns, and accelerating out. In dry conditions, these tires are right up there with the best in the category. Steering response is quick and nimble when maneuvering back and forth. In the wet the Zero Rosso's provide good traction, but not quite up on par with the best in the category. When pushed at the limit they do loose grip, when we maneuvered through the cones at higher speeds. (But that is not how most people drive). We just like to push our tires as hard as they can go.
Conclusion:
If you have the money to spend on a nice sports car, you need to outfit it with some solid tires. Tires are the only way to transfer the power of your vehicle to the pavement, and the only part of your car that is actually touching the road. The Pirelli P Zero Rosso's are one of the better sets of tires in Performance Summer category. These come in W (168 mph) and Y (186 mph) speed ratings. Price ranges from about $130 to $400 for the Asimmetrico's and about $280 to $380 for the Direzionale's depending on size. |
