The Dunlop Graspic DS-3 Tire Review
Winter Tire
Tabitha on Google+

The Dunlop Graspic DS-3 is developed as part of the Digi-Tire Studless Snow and Ice series. Utilizing Dunlop’s Digital Rolling Simulation II Technology, this tire evenly distributes pressure to prolong tread life and enhance its snow and ice traction. The premium silica compound mixed with fiber glass, which are molded into the tire’s symmetrical pattern, keeps the tire soft at lower temperatures to further improve its grip and control on ice.

The tire also features high-density, Miura-shaped sipes craftily incorporated in its 3D, zigzag design. This siping system helps make the tire’s individual tread blocks stiffer and consequently improves handling, especially in dry roads, provider greater control, and enhances overall winter traction.

The Dunlop Graspic DS-3 comes in a wide array of sizes. This tire’s width ranges from 185-275mm, while its diameter ranges from 14”-19”. Given the specifications, this tire matches well with a variety of car brands and sizes- it works harmoniously with compact sports cars, coupes and sedans, and it suits mid-range cars such as family minivans and crossover vehicles.

As it proves itself a reliable tire for virtually all winter conditions by passing the industry’s severe requirements, this tire is branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol. Its MSRP starts at roughly $86 and varies depending on the size and vendor you choose.

Tire Test Results
The Dunlop Graspic DS-3 features cutting-edge technologies that are supposed to make it a supreme tire for rough winter driving. However, how well do these fancy new technologies really work? Here’s what we found out:

Pros
  • The tire performs well and provides excellent traction despite the road being dry or covered with ice and snow, both fresh and packed.
  • The noise it produces is barely audible. Makes squishing noises, which are common in winter tires, but barely noticeable.
  • Comfortable ride in dry, wet, and snow conditions.
  • Wear rate of the tire's tread is above average.
  • It offers great handling, acceleration, and braking power, which provides security and inspires confidence.

Cons
  • Grip is noticeably diminished on very wet and slushy roads.
  • The tire leans toward the soft side, making hard cornering a true dilemma.

Conclusion
On the whole, we find the Dunlop Graspic DS-3 to be a good tire for most winter weathers, though it tends to be weaker when it comes to cornering and wet, slushy roads. For everyday driving in areas sprinkled with light to moderate snow and ice, however, this is a great choice for winter tire. It is also reasonably priced from about $72 to $191 per tire depending on size and vendor, which is on the low side for dedicated winter tires such as this.
