The Michelin PS 2 is an ultra high performance tire that comes as original equipment on cars such as Corvette ZR1's, BMW M3's, and Porsche 911's. It is a high performance summer tire that is for driving in dry and wet conditions but not on snow or ice.
This tire has been around for a while now- it originally hit the market back in 2004. Even after eight plus years of hitting the pavement, this tire is still up there with some of the best summer tires in its class. The Pilot Sport PS2 contains two tread compounds- one for wet traction and one for dry traction. The dry traction compound on the outer portion of the tire is a hybrid carbon and silica base designed for ultimate grip and handling. The wet traction compound on the inner portion of the tire features grooves for channeling water to provide grip in the rain and prevent hydroplaning. When tested on the track, this tire really excels when pushed to the limit. You can drive this tire hard and it does not flinch when cornering, accelerating, or braking. It also comes with a 20,000 mile warranty from Michelin, which most high performance tires do not come with.
Conclusion:
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 has been around for a while and there are some newer options available including the Pilot Sport PS3. That being said, the PS2 still rides as well as the best performance summer tires out there, and you can usually get this tire for a pretty good deal. Price is around $200 or so depending on size and vendor.
