Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max Tire Review
Passenger All Season Tire The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max is one of Goodyear's Passenger All Season tires that is supposed to give you lower rolling resistance, longer tread life and more eco friendly material in your tire. It is designed for use in dry conditions, wet / rain conditions, and then also light snow. This tire's tread pattern is designed in a special way where the center of the tire has a different tread compound that provides better traction in wet conditions, while the outside portions provide enhanced dry traction. If you click on the tire image to the left you can see the tread pattern in high detail. You can also see the numerous chutes for channeling water, and small sipes for winter / snow traction. Driven: When tested, the Assurance Fuel Max provided 28.2 miles per gallon in the BMW 3 series- the same MPG as the other eco tires tested. This is not a significant improvement in comparison to regular / non low rolling resistance tires. The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max did not perform as well as the other tires tested in most categories. Dry traction was ok, but steering response and cornering could be improved. Wet traction was a little slippery, especially around turns. When driven at 65 mph and higher, the tires did were a little noisy. It appears as though the tread compound used to improve fuel efficiency in this tire, has lead less traction and control for the tire in both dry and wet conditions. Goodyear is not the only manufacturer to struggle with this; it seems to be a common theme with many low rolling resistance tires.
