The Goodyear Eagle F1 is a tire built for performance cars seeking fast and furious traction, and comes as original equipment on many models including the Mercedes Benz CLS. The tread on this tire is Goodyear's new state of the art racing compound which contains carbon for dry traction, and special silica for wet grip. This is a performance tire that is not meant to be driven in the snow or on ice.
If you click on the tire's image to the left you can see the tread pattern and design up close and personal. The big grooves allow for water to channel out from the middle of the tire and prevent hydroplaning in wet conditions.
The Eagle F1, just like Goodyear's other tires, has three layers of polyamide cord inside, along with twin steel belts that maintain the tires shape and structure at high speeds. The tire is asymmetric and therefore can only be rotated front to back, and not side to side.
When tested, the Goodyear Eagle F1 performed extremely well in both wet and dry conditions. Cornering and handling at both low and high speeds was great. When braking in both wet and dry conditions the tires stopped very promptly. Hydroplaning resistance and all around wet driving was very confident- at no point does the tire feel like it is going to slip.
Ride comfort and noise comfort are good but not as good as any touring or passenger tire, which is to be expected. This is a tire for high speed performance after all. Which brings us the next item- treadlife. This tire does not come with a treadlife warranty, which is fairly common for tires in this class. The tread will probably last 20k to 40k miles depending on hard you drive and of course how frequently as well.
