Dunlop SP Sport 7000 A/S Tire Review
High Performance All Season Tire This tire is designed for traction in dry and wet conditions, as well as light snow, and comes in H (130mph) and V (149mph) speed rated versions. ![]() The SP Sport 7000 AS comes with Multi Radius Tread Technology that is designed to improve dry and wet traction. It also comes with Dunlop's special Jointless Band Technology which keeps the tires shape and structure uniform while at high speeds to improve all around performance.
This tire is designed with 5 pitch technology which Dunlop uses on many of it tires to reduce noise for a more pleasant and quiet ride. If you click on the image to the left you can see the tire up close and personal, including the tread pattern designed to evacuate water through various channels and chutes. You can also see the smallest grooves called sipes which provide winter traction in snow and ice. Tested: The Dunlop SP Sport 7000 AS provides very good dry traction, steering response, and cornering stability. The tires handle well even when driven pretty hard around the track, and steering back and forth between cones. The part where the tires start to slip a bit is in the wet traction department. They don't handle as well as other All Season tires on the wet track when cornering, toggling back and forth between cones, and also over large puddles to test hydroplaning resistance. Treadwear seems to be about average, and the amount of noise the tires produce on the highway is about average as well. The tires do provide a nice smooth and 'cushioned' ride, which is always nice. This is most likely due to how high a profile tire this has compared to most other high performance tires.
Conclusion:
Overall the Dunlop SP Sport 7000 A/S provides very good traction and steering response in dry conditions, but does not handle as well as similar all season tires in wet conditions. It does provide a very smooth and comfortable ride, but then again this is not a touring or passanger tire, so probably not what you are looking for here. The price ranges from about $90 - $200 per tire, which is an ok value for this tire, but not great. Personally I would go for something like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 or Kumho Ecsta PA31 which are in the same category and price range, but perform much better in both dry and wet conditions. |
