High Performance All Season Tire The Firehawk GT just like other all seasons tires is designed for dry and wet traction, as well as traction in light snow conditions. ![]() UTQG Ratings: Treadwear: 460 Traction: A/B Temperature: A
Like I stress in all other tire reviews, if you are not driving in the snow during the winter, go with a summer tire. Summer tires perform better in both dry and wet conditions than an all season tire. You can find great summer tires for your vehicle here: Summer Tire Reviews. Alright now back to the Firestone Firehawk GT. This tire comes with some fancy new technologies designed for better traction and all around performance. Silica enhanced tread compounds provide better traction and handling in wet road conditions. The tires tread design also allows the water to be channeled through lateral grooves to prevent hydroplaning. The continuous center rib provides straight line traction, while the bigger shoulder blocks provide more precise cornering. The tire's internal structure was created with steel belts and spirally wrapped nylon that help the tire hold its shape at high speeds and increase durability. The Firehawk GT was also designed using Firestone's Veri Pitch Noise Reduction Technology. This decreases the tires noise especially at high speeds on the freeway. Tested:
So once it hits the track, how does the Firehawk GT perform? This tire proves it has excellent dry traction, cornering, and all around handling even when driven pretty hard. The tire's steering response when driven back and forth between cones was crisp and precise. When taken through the same track but with wet driving conditions the tires provided very good traction even when cornering sharply. The tires did not hydroplane when taken through a large shallow puddle at high speeds.
Conclusion:
The Firestone Firehawk GT is a solid high performance all season tire that performs well in both dry and wet road conditions. It provides excellent steering response and handling even when driven aggressively. On the freeway the tires did produce a bit a noise, but that is fairly common with tires such as these. Price ranges from about $80 to $200 per tire depending on size, which is about average for this category. |
